Sarah Thorley
Sarah Thorley showcased ‘The Bateman Collection’ of storytelling pattern designs for interiors, inspired by the Victorian National Trust treasure: Biddulph Grange Gardens, created by James Bateman in 1840.
Situated near to Sarah’s hometown in Staffordshire, the Gardens is a place that Sarah holds close to her heart. Full to the brim with florals, foliage, culture, history, architecture, birds, nature and more, the story of James Bateman’s journey unfolds through Chinese, Italian and Egyptian gardens of the 19th century.
Sarah created artworks using both traditional and digital tools including watercolour and pencil, discharge printing, digital editing, and colouring using Adobe Creative Cloud and industry software AVA CAD CAM, before taking through to digital print onto luxurious fabrics such as linens.
Her work was recognised in the final year when she was awarded the overall Grand Masterpiece Prize for her wallpaper designs, selected from across the UK Universities.
